Helen Stenner Memorial Essay Prize Competition

THE DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY AT WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE

THE ANNUAL HELEN STENNER MEMORIAL
ESSAY PRIZE COMPETITION

PRIZE: $1,000

 

Eligibility: The Competition is open to all undergraduate majors and minors and graduate students in the Department of Philosophy at Washington University. The competition among undergraduate students is separate from the competition among graduate students. Two separate prizes may be given.

Subject and preparation of essay: The essay can be on any subject of philosophical interest.  It should be double-spaced in NYT Roman 12-point font, and should not exceed six thousand words in length.  Only one entry per student is permitted.  Essays that have been previously awarded prizes are not suitable for submission.

Assessment: The essays will be blind-reviewed by external faculty. If no essay is deemed of sufficiently high quality to warrant receipt of the prize, no award will be given.

Submission: Do not put your name anywhere on the essay. Instead, prepare a separate title page with the title, your name, and email address on it. Essays should be submitted to Professor Rebecca Copenhaver, Department Awards Committee Chair via email at rcopenhaver@wustl.edu.
