Will Bell’s paper, “God Hidden from God: On Theodicy, Dereliction, and Human Suffering,” is now forthcoming in the International Journal for Philosophy of Religion. The abstract is below. Well done, Will!
Abstract: A number of prominent contemporary theologians and philosophers have found theodical value in the theme of divine solidarity with human suffering. To further develop this theme, I examine what it would mean to assert that God participated in a representative sample of human suffering. In doing so, I aim to distinguish and clarify notions of presence and absence central to the discussion.
