Henry Schiller, "Informational Chauvinism"
Abstract: In order to have a rational effect on our decision-making behavior, an utterance must be informative. This seems to follow from a more general principle about the rational mind: that all changes to an agent’s rational attitudes are driven by information learning. The goal of this talk is to (a) say more precisely what this principle is and what it entails, (b) say something about why this picture of the rational mind might be correct, and (c) discuss what sorts of considerations might weigh against it.
